The KOBI National Meeting (Rakernas) 2024 held in Aceh marked a significant milestone in the field of biology, bringing together academics, researchers, and practitioners from various institutions. The event, which took place on November 5, 2024, was organized by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), in collaboration with various educational institutions, including Prodi Biologi FKIP USK, Prodi Biologi Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi UIN Ar-Raniry, and supported by local government agencies such as the Banda Aceh City Government, Dinas ESDM Aceh, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was officially opened by the Rector of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, who expressed his appreciation for the event’s significance and hoped it would foster breakthroughs in biological sciences for Indonesia. During the meeting, various strategic steps and programs for the advancement of biology in Indonesia were discussed, focusing on research, development, and the role of biology in addressing environmental and health challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the distinguished attendees was Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, M.Si., IPU, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at USK, who also participated in the gala dinner held at the Pendopo Walikota Banda Aceh. The gala dinner, hosted by the Banda Aceh City Mayor, Mr. Ade Surya, ST., ME, served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between KOBI members, local government officials, and other stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing environmental issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening event was marked by warm discussions and the exchange of ideas, signaling a deep commitment to supporting biodiversity conservation, health, and community empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ICEBES 2024 Brings Global Experts Together in Aceh<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the KOBI Rakernas, the International Conference on Biology and Environmental Science (ICEBES) 2024 was held on November 6, 2024, at FMIPA USK, further showcasing the region\u2019s commitment to global collaboration in addressing biodiversity and environmental sustainability challenges. The conference featured notable keynote speakers, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muh Izzuddin Syakir Ishak from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Z. Siregar from IPB University, and Prof. Dr. Suhartono from USK, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also included invited speakers from across the globe, such as Chihjen Ko from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and Dr. Lindsay F. Banin from the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. The conference covered critical topics like climate change, biodiversity, and environmental conservation, with 50 participants presenting their research findings both in person and virtually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mangrove Planting Initiative Marks Community Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the event’s community service activities, a mangrove planting session took place in Lampulo, Banda Aceh. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Department of Biology FMIPA USK, Prodi Pendidikan Biologi FKIP USK, and Prodi Biologi Saintek UIN Ar-Raniry. Prof. Dr. Lenni Fitri, S.Si., M.P., the Chair of the Department of Biology at USK, highlighted the importance of such initiatives not only for environmental conservation but also for educating the younger generation about the urgent need to preserve our natural ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking Forward to Future Collaborations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of the KOBI Rakernas and ICEBES 2024 sets a promising precedent for future collaborations between educational institutions, local governments, and communities in addressing global environmental challenges. The KOBI meeting, supported by various partners, including PT Solusi Bangun Andalas, Bank Indonesia, and PT PEMA Global Energi, is a testament to the power of collective action in driving meaningful change for sustainability and biodiversity conservation in Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
