LAM SAMA Assessment at USK: Evaluating the Quality of the Physics Study Program at FMIPA

Banda Aceh, April 15, 2026 — The Bachelor’s Program in Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Syiah Kuala University (USK), underwent an on-site accreditation assessment conducted by the Independent Accreditation Agency for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAM SAMA) from April 13 to April 14, 2026. This activity represents an important step in quality assurance efforts and the continuous improvement of academic standards within the institution.

The two appointed assessors, Mitrayana and Mohammad Taufik, arrived on campus and were welcomed by university leaders, faculty members, and the academic community of FMIPA. Their visit was seen as a strategic moment to evaluate and strengthen the quality of education delivery within the Physics Study Program.

In his remarks, Vice Rector I of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, M.Si., IPU., emphasized that the assessment is not merely an administrative process, but part of the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards in higher education. He highlighted that USK continues to strive for continuous improvement in order to remain competitive at both national and global levels.

“This process serves as a space for reflection and a comprehensive evaluation of the achievements and challenges faced by the study program. We hope the assessment will run objectively and provide constructive recommendations,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M. Tech., also shared his perspective on the assessment. He stressed that accreditation is not solely about administrative evaluation, but also an integral part of cultivating a sustainable quality culture.

“At FMIPA USK, we view this assessment as an opportunity to showcase our achievements while also receiving valuable input for improvement. Our commitment is to ensure that all study programs, including Physics, are capable of producing graduates who are competent, adaptive, and ready to contribute at both national and international levels,” he explained.

During the two-day assessment, the assessors reviewed various aspects, including curriculum, human resources, laboratory facilities, and program governance. The Department of Physics at FMIPA USK demonstrated its readiness by presenting comprehensive supporting data and ensuring that the evaluation process was conducted transparently.

The department stated that the assessment had been thoroughly prepared as part of its internal quality assurance cycle. External evaluations like this are considered essential for identifying strengths as well as areas that require further improvement.

The LAM SAMA assessment itself is an independent evaluation mechanism focusing on study programs in natural sciences and formal sciences. The results of this process will determine the accreditation status, which serves as a key indicator of quality and competitiveness at the national level.

Beyond evaluation, this activity is also expected to open broader opportunities for collaboration between higher education institutions and accreditation bodies. In this way, quality improvement is not only administrative but also has a tangible impact on the advancement of science and the quality of graduates.

Through this assessment, the Physics Study Program at FMIPA USK reaffirms its commitment to continuously improving academic standards, strengthening governance, and contributing to the development of high-quality human resources in the field of science. The final results are expected to reflect the quality that has been built while also serving as a foundation for future development.
