FMIPA Unsyiah Invites OJK to Socialize Actuaries

Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Syiah Kuala University ( Unsyiah) invited the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to socialize the actuarial profession. This event, which was packaged in the form of a seminar, took place at The Pade Hotel, Lampeuneurut, Aceh Besar on Thursday (27/4). This seminar was attended by around 150 people, including representatives from high school students throughout Banda Aceh City, students and lecturers in Mathematics and Statistics FMIPA Unsyiah, OJK representatives, and representatives of the Indonesian Actuaries Association (PAI).

The seminar, which was opened directly by the Dean of FMIPA Unsyiah, Dr Teuku M Iqbalsyah MSc, featured four national speakers, namely Asep Suwondo from OJK, Rianto Ahmadi and Vincentius Wilianto from the Indonesian Actuaries Association ( PAI), as well as William Duggan of READI Canada.

In his speech, the Dean of FMIPA hoped that FMIPA graduates would be able to make the actuarial profession a field of work after graduating. Considering that the fields of mathematics and statistics are one of the basic foundations of this profession. Meanwhile, the Head of the Mathematics Department, FMIPA Unsyiah, Nurmaulidar MSc, said that the seminar held through the program to produce 1000 actuaries was aimed at socializing the actuarial profession, which is still very small in Indonesia, namely only around 465 people as of September 2016.

“Indonesia currently needs 1,667 actuaries. “FMIPA Mathematics graduates can work as actuaries by taking exams conducted by the Indonesian Actuaries Association (PAI),” said Nurmaulidar.

The Mathematics Study Program at FMIPA Unsyiah is one of the study programs that has been accredited A for a long time, while the Statistics Study Program is one of the youngest study programs at FMIPA Unsyiah, but has been accredited B since This year. (i’m)
