Some of the courses practiced are Tropical Forest Biology, Collection Techniques, Entomology, Ornithology, Animal Biosystematics, Plant Biosystematics, and Field Studies.

Apart from holding practicums, the PL organizing committee, which is a class of 2017 students, also held a Friendship Morning (Pagrab) between students, alumni and lecturers.

This event was also attended by a guest from the Leuser Conservation Forum (FKL), Muhammad Isa, who is also an alumnus from the Biology department. This event took place on Sunday Morning, April 27 2019.

Isa said, FKL is a non-governmental organization that focuses on saving wild animals and their habitats in Aceh, especially in the Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL) area in Aceh.

Apart from that, Isa invited all students of the Biology Department, FMIPA Unsyiah to carry out research and Practical Work Lectures (KKP) at several research stations in Leuser together with FKL.

The chairman of the 2019 PL committee, Alfikri Shadrian, expressed his gratitude and thanks to all parties who have helped in making this activity a success.

“Field Practicum will not be possible without help from every party, in this activity we are also taught how to face a problem with a cool head,” continued Fikri.

The PL lecturer and Chair of the 2019 PL Organizer, Masykur, M.Si, in his speech appreciated the committee’s performance in preparing the PL. Apart from that, he also appealed to students to maintain solidarity with different generations.

“Biology students not only learn theory in class, but also have to be able to survive in the field,” he stressed.

2019 PL Field Coordinator, Fitra Heriansyiah, said that this year’s PL was the most memorable PL. Through PL, continued Fitra, he and the committee gained a lot of experience and lessons from the various obstacles they faced.

“In accordance with the PL theme this year, every experience is meant to teach you something new. Even though the weather is not friendly, the PL still runs smoothly until it is finished,” continued Fitra.

For the second time, Cucum was the location for the practicum. Previously, Cucum was the location for PL in 2014 which was organized by the 2013 class student committee.

Field Practicum (PL) is part of the lecture activities in the Biology Department, FMIPA Unsyiah. Every year, the Biology Department holds a PL which is attended by more than one generation, or what is also called a big PL. The large PL is prepared by students in rotating batches every year.
