A total of nine undergraduate students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) were sent to Wuhan, China, to take part in the Student Mobility Program. This program lasted for 12 days starting last October 12.

The nine students sent were selected from around 1,700 currently active FMIPA students. Selection focuses on academic achievement, extra-curricular achievements, ability to communicate in a foreign language, and general insight.
Deputy Dean of FMIPA for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. rer. Nat. Ilham Maulana explained that the Student Mobility Program is a special program that only exists at FMIPA UNSYIAH, which sends students abroad every year.
“This program aims to open students’ international horizons, give them the opportunity to enjoy the educational atmosphere at various world universities, and motivate them to continue their studies abroad in the future,” continued Ilham.
This year is the third year of this program, where all students who pass the selection are sent only to China. Last year, three Asian countries were the targets of this program, namely Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
This year, students will carry out various activities at three well-known universities in Wuhan, namely China University of Geoscience, Wuhan University of Technology, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Some of the FMIPA students’ activities there were taking part in the learning process in class, visiting laboratory facilities, meeting with several professors, as well as meetings with local and international student organizations.
“We are exploring making a program to Turkey and Australia next year. God willing, Turkey will be positive, just Australia, please pray,” said Ilham closing the conversation.
FMIPA has experienced rapid progress in recent years. Apart from the teaching and learning process, one of the most significant things that has progressed at FMIPA is the new building facilities and various laboratory instrumentation.
