Western Region BKS Student Science Competition Techniques

 

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

The Photography Competition is one of the student competitions as part of a series of SEMIRATA PTN BKS West Region 2021 activities organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University. This Photography Competition can only be participated by individuals from various universities in Indonesia. This competition was held to inspire students with a scientific background in Mathematics and Natural Sciences to actualize their scientific understanding in the form of beautiful photos of natural objects and phenomena. The work results in the form of a unique photo accompanied by a caption one popular scientific sentence explaining the photo. Work can be uploaded to participants’ Instagram by adding #SEMIRATA_2021, and tagging the FMIPA USK Instagram account.

 

Theme : Science and Local Natural Resources

Participant Criteria

  1. Participants are individuals and are active MIPA/MIPA Education students at S1/DIII level from PTN/PTS throughout Indonesia as proven by KTM/Active Lecture Letter & KRS last year
  2. Each participant can only submit 1 work.

Photo Criteria:

  1. The work is adapted to the theme, and does not contain SARA
  2. The work is the original work of the competition participant, has never been published, and has never been entered in a competition before.
  3. Works are allowed to be processed digitally, but only limited to crop, brightness, saturation, and contrast
  4. The work is accompanied by a popular scientific one-sentence caption explaining the photo

Registration Procedures:

  1. Participants must follow the Instagram account @Fmipa_USK & Subscribe to the FMIPA USK YouTube Channel
  2. Uploading works is done on participants’ Instagram with the hashtag #SEMIRATA_2021, and tagging @Fmipa_USK
  3. Participants register by filling in the form available on the following Google Form: http://bit.ly/KSM_Fotografi
  4. Work submitted after the acceptance deadline will not be included in the assessment

Important Dates:

  1. Register and Upload your work 07 May – 26 June 2021
  2. Winner announcement: 03 July 2021

Evaluation Criteria:

  1. The assessment criteria include: uniqueness of the photo, shooting technique, aesthetics, editing according to regulations, ability to explain the scientific side of photos in a popular way, and overall creativity.
  2. The participant who gets the most “Like” will be declared the favorite winner.
  3. The winner of the competition will be announced on FMIPA USK’s social media (Instagram : @Fmipa_USK) and the official website of FMIPA USK
  4. The committee’s decision is absolute and cannot be contested

POPULAR SCIENCE WRITING COMPETITION

The Popular Science Writing Competition (KTSP) is one of the student science competitions as part of the SEMIRATA PTN BKS West Region 2021 activities organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University. The KTSP competition was held to encourage the spirit of popular scientific writing in the field of Mathematics and Natural Sciences among students. KTSP can be participated by individuals or teams from various universities in Indonesia by submitting written work related to the latest scientific theories and applications according to their respective fields of science.

Theme : Science and Local Natural Resources

Participant Criteria

  1. Participants are individuals or groups of students from the Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) and Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education study programs.
  2. Participants are active undergraduate/D3 students at PTN/PTS universities in Indonesia, proven by attaching a scan of their KTM/Active Lecture Letter and last KRS.
  3. The maximum group or team participants consist of 3 people (including 1 chairman) from the same university but may have different study programs.
  4. Each participant may only submit one written work.

Work Criteria

  1. The work must be original, not copy other people’s work (plagiarism), and have never been published or entered into any competition.
  2. The work is submitted in the form of popular articles (such as articles in magazines and mass media) with a maximum word count of 900 words
  3. The work must be in accordance with the specified theme.
  4. The work is written in standard and scientific Indonesian according to the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI).
  5. Works are submitted in pdf format with document name format: LKTSP_<Name of Chairman>_Title of KaryaTulis.

Registration Procedures

  1. Each participant is required to follow the FMIPA USK Instagram account and the FMIPA USK YouTube Channel, as evidenced by a screenshot uploaded to the Google Registration Form.
  2. Written work is submitted via Google Form for registration from the moment this announcement is opened and received no later than June 26 2021. Maximum document size is 10MB.
  3. Registration and submission of manuscripts can be accessed via http://bit.ly/KSM_KaryaTulis

Important Dates:

  1. Registration and submission of written work: 07 May – 26 June 2021

Evaluation Criteria

  • The assessment emphasizes originality and creativity in presenting written work
  • The assessment is carried out by a team of judges appointed by the KSM committee.
  • The jury’s decision is final and cannot be contested.

SCIENCE PROJECT COMPETITION

 

The science project competition is one of the student competitions as part of the SEMIRATA PTN BKS West Region 2021 activities organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University. The science project competition was held to increase students’ interest in pursuing experimental and applied science. This competition can be participated in by individuals or teams from various universities in Indonesia.

Theme : Science and Local Natural Resources

Participant Criteria

  1. Participants are active MIPA/MIPA Education students at S1/DIII level from PTN/PTS throughout Indonesia as proven by KTM/Active Lecture Letter & KRS last year
  2. Participants can consist of individuals or teams that are considered as one unit.
  3. Participants can submit as many science project videos as they like.

Work criteria:

  1. The video contains science project ideas from participants that are adapted to the theme and described in the form of animation, infographics or documentaries in high resolution/high definition format.
  2. The duration of the video is between 5-10 minutes
  3. The video submitted is the original work of the participant and has never been published and won the competition before. Copyright violations and lawsuits regarding works, scores and other aspects submitted in the competition are the sole responsibility of the participants and outside the responsibility of the committee
  4. Stock shots can come from various sources (after obtaining permission from the owner) with a maximum of 30% of the video work submitted
  5. If the video submitted includes material or data from other people or institutions, participants are required to clearly state the data source
  6. Putting watermarks in works is not permitted

  2. Participants register by filling in the form available on the following Google Form: http://bit.ly/KSM_ProyekSains
  3. The video work is uploaded to YouTube and the link is written on the registration form in point 2

Evaluation Criteria:

  1. Assessment points in science projects include originality of ideas, methods of conveying messages, as well as composition and artistry.
  2. Videos submitted after the acceptance deadline will not be included in the assessment
  3. The participant who gets the most “Like” will be declared the favorite winner.
  4. The committee has the right to use participant videos for educational purposes while still including the name of the video creator
  5. The jury’s decision is final and cannot be contested. Each individual/team can only win one award
  6. The winner of the competition will be announced on FMIPA USK’s social media (Instagram : @Fmipa_USK) and the official website of FMIPA USK
