The Master of Chemistry Study Program (PSMKIM) and the Master of Biology Study Program (PSMBIO) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Syiah Kuala University (USK) received superior accreditation from the Independent Accreditation Institute for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA). This assurance was obtained after receiving a Decree from LAMSAMA Number 064/SK/LAMSAMA/akred/M/XII/2022 concerning the Accreditation Ranking of Chemistry Study Programs in the Syiah Kuala University Masters Program, and a Decree from LAMSAMA Number 061/SK/LAMSAMA/akred/M/XII/2022, concerning the Accreditation Ranking of Biology Study Programs in the Syiah Kuala University Masters Program.
PSMKIM and PSMBIO respectively obtained scores of 364.20 and 362.84 from LAMSAMA. Superior accreditation status is given to study programs that successfully exceed a score of 361. These two study programs were previously visited by LAMSAMA assessors on 15-17 December 2022. This visit was carried out after the two study programs sent their Accreditation Form documents to LAMSAMA.
These two study programs previously received an accreditation score of B (Good) from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BANPT), which was the official institution for accrediting higher education institutions previously. PSMKIM and PSMBIO are the first postgraduate higher education institutions in Aceh Province based on in-depth study of chemistry and biology. Officially PSMKIM and PSMBIO were founded in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. TM Iqbalsyah, M.Sc., hopes that the superior accreditation scores obtained by these two study programs will provide great motivation to the FMIPA USK family, especially these two study programs, to continue to improve their quality in the future.
“The next big challenge is international accreditation. “The possibility in that direction is quite open, especially since the support and commitment from university leadership is also very strong,” added Iqbalsyah.
Meanwhile, PSMKIM Coordinator, Dr. Surya Lubis, M.Si and PSMBIO Coordinator, Dr. Ir. Wira Dharma, S.Si, M.Si, MP agreed with the Dean’s comments, and admitted that he was enthusiastic about proposing these two study programs to international level accreditation in the future.
Previously, another master’s study program at FMIPA had just obtained accreditation status, namely the Mathematics Master’s Study Program (PSMMAT). The LAMSAMA assessor team had visited PSMMAT just a week before the visitation of PSMKIM and PSMBIO. PSMMAT obtained excellent accreditation status, which will be valid for the next five years. (i’m)
