The Physics Study Program (Prodi) and Mathematics/Statistics Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Syiah Kuala University (USK) were respectively named the best Physics Study Program and Mathematics/Statistics Study Program in Indonesia. This certainty was obtained after the world’s leading ranking agency, Times Higher Education (THE) released its latest data in THE World University Ranking (THE WUR), which is a ranking of universities throughout the world, which was quoted by www.republika.co.id on Thursday (30/11).
THE World University Ranking (THE WUR) is a type of ranking carried out by one of the well-known ranking institutions, Times Higher Education (THE). THE WUR by Subject ranking uses the same 18 performance indicators as those used in THE WUR 2024 with scores given in five categories, namely teaching (teaching), research environment (research environment), research quality, industry, and international outlook.
THE WUR 2024 by Subject is implemented in various countries around the world. To be able to participate in THE WUR by Subject ranking, universities must meet two criteria, namely the publication threshold based on scientific discipline and the academic staff threshold which is also based on scientific discipline.
Best Physics Study Program
USK FMIPA Physics Study Program ranks among campuses on the island of Java as the top ranked campus with the best physics major in Indonesia THE WUR by Subject 2024. USK FMIPA Physics Study Program is ranked 601–800 in the world. Meanwhile, the second and third places are occupied by the Physics Study Program at Airlangga University (Unair) and the University of Indonesia (UI), respectively. Meanwhile, Physics Study Programs from other well-known universities such as ITB, UGM, and ITS are in 8th, 11th, and 18th position respectively.
Best Mathematics/Statistics Study Program
Meanwhile, the USK FMIPA Mathematics/Statistics Study Program, which is actually two different study programs, namely the Mathematics Study Program and the Statistics Study Program, also managed to outperform the same study programs throughout Indonesia, and is also ranked 601-800 in the world. The second and third places are also occupied by Unair and UI. Meanwhile, Physics Study Programs from other well-known universities such as ITB and UGM are in 8th and 11th position respectively.
FMIPA USK is currently one of the largest faculties at USK, with more than 2,500 active students. A total of 15 study programs are currently under USK’s FMIPA, namely two diploma study programs, seven undergraduate study programs, five master’s study programs, and one professional education study program, most of which have an accreditation grade of superior or A.
