
Banda Aceh – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Syiah Kuala University (FMIPA-USK) celebrated its 7th Lustrum, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of FMIPA-USK. The grand event was held in a lively atmosphere, featuring a series of academic activities, scientific competitions, and awards for outstanding lecturers, academic staff, and students. This celebration marked an important milestone in emphasizing FMIPA’s dedication to supporting the vision of a World Class University, focusing on the development of education, research, and community service.

The event began with two international scientific conferences, namely the ICELTICs (International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Informatics) and ICeBES (The International Conference on Biology and Environmental Sciences), which brought together academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries to share the latest knowledge in the fields of engineering, informatics, biology, and environmental sciences. These conferences showcased FMIPA’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening the role of the university as a leading research center in Southeast Asia.

In addition to the conferences, the event also featured PIL MIPA (MIPA Scientific Week and Competition), a prestigious competition for FMIPA students to compete in various branches of science and technology. This competition not only involved FMIPA students but also attracted participation from universities across Indonesia, creating a competitive academic atmosphere full of enthusiasm. The Fun Walk held during the day also served as a means to strengthen solidarity among students, lecturers, academic staff, and alumni of FMIPA, further enhancing ties within the academic community.
The highlight of the 7th Lustrum celebration was attended by various prominent figures, including Pj Governor of Aceh Dr. H. Safrizal ZA, M.Si, who delivered a message via video. In his speech, he expressed his pride and appreciation for FMIPA-USK. “FMIPA has become a pioneer of innovation and a source of inspiration for the youth of Aceh. I hope the faculty continues to grow and makes a positive impact not only in Aceh but also nationally and internationally,” he said.
USK Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan extended his congratulations and praise for FMIPA’s achievements over the past 35 years. “Congratulations on your 35th anniversary, FMIPA! The faculty has grown significantly and is now one of the leading faculties at Syiah Kuala University. I hope FMIPA continues to achieve great success and remains a key pillar in realizing USK’s vision of becoming a World Class University,” said Prof. Marwan enthusiastically.
In his remarks, FMIPA Dean Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., expressed his gratitude to everyone who has supported FMIPA’s journey. “The support from our alumni and various stakeholders has been one of the main factors driving the development of FMIPA. We will continue to strive to improve the quality of education and research to make a greater contribution to society,” he said.
Dr. Ir. Elly Supriadi, S.Si., M.Si, as the Chair of the 7th Lustrum Committee, explained that the celebration consisted of a series of events leading up to the grand occasion, including social activities and awards for donors who have significantly contributed to FMIPA’s progress. “There have been many activities leading up to this event. We also give awards to the donors who have supported us throughout this journey,” she said.
A guest lecture was held featuring Ibu Safriati Safrizal ZA, S.Si., M.Si, Chairperson of the Aceh TP PKK, and Ibu Yekki Yasmin, S.Si, M,Si, Pj Chairperson of PKK Banda Aceh, providing valuable insights into the role of women in sustainable development and community empowerment. The guest lecture was warmly received by participants, who viewed it as an opportunity to learn about the integration of science and social empowerment in daily life.
During the Anugerah Dosen dan Tendik Terbaik FMIPA 2024 (FMIPA Best Lecturer and Academic Staff Awards Night), recognition was given to outstanding lecturers, academic staff, and students who have shown exceptional achievements in various fields. The awards included several categories:
- Best Teacher – Awarded to lecturers who have demonstrated high-quality teaching and dedication in imparting knowledge to students.
- Best Researcher – Awarded to lecturers who are active in research and have made significant contributions to the advancement of science.
- Best Community Service – Awarded to lecturers who have played an active role in community service activities and have made direct contributions to society.
- Best Laboratory Staff – Recognized for their dedication in supporting laboratory activities.
- Best Administrator – Awarded to administrative staff who work with integrity and professionalism in their daily tasks within the faculty.

The event was also marked by exceptional support from FMIPA alumni, who not only attended to celebrate but also contributed prizes for the Fun Walk event. The exciting prizes further enlivened the atmosphere and demonstrated the strong solidarity between alumni and the FMIPA academic community.
FMIPA-USK has proven itself to be an institution that excels not only in academic achievement but also in maintaining strong ties with alumni and the wider community. With its achievements and contributions over the past 35 years, FMIPA-USK continues to be a leading force in higher education in Aceh and Indonesia.
