FMIPA USK Holds Workshop on Preparing SAR Documents for ASIIN International Accreditation

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) successfully held a full-day workshop titled “Workshop on Preparing SAR Documents for ASIIN International Accreditation” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. This initiative is part of the faculty’s ongoing commitment to internationalize its academic programs and enhance educational quality in line with global standards.

ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) is a Germany-based accreditation agency recognized for evaluating and certifying degree programs in engineering, informatics, natural sciences, and mathematics. Gaining ASIIN accreditation is a significant milestone for any higher education institution, as it reflects international recognition, promotes academic excellence, and opens doors for global academic and industry collaboration.

The event began with participant registration at 8:00 AM, followed by a welcoming session hosted by Lydia Septa Desiyana, S.Farm., M.Si.Apt. In her opening speech, organizing committee chair Nurhasanah, S.Si., M.Si. emphasized the relevance of international accreditation in today’s higher education landscape and the need for FMIPA USK to align its academic quality with international benchmarks.

Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., in his keynote remarks, expressed strong support for the accreditation initiative and underscored the importance of collaboration among faculty members in ensuring all programs meet the rigorous criteria set by ASIIN.

The first session featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Suhendrayatna, M.Eng, who presented “Quality Assurance of International Accreditation”. He elaborated on the policies and strategic considerations for selecting appropriate international accreditation agencies and highlighted best practices from leading institutions. The session, moderated by Lydia Septa Desiyana, invited active engagement from participants through a discussion segment.

After a brief technical break and Zoom preparations, the second session began at 10:10 AM. Dr. Endah Retnowati, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. delivered a presentation titled “ASIIN International Accreditation and the Stages of SAR Preparation”. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Suhartono, S.Si., M.Sc., the session detailed the structural components of the Self Assessment Report (SAR), a critical document in the ASIIN accreditation process. Participants gained insights into how to collect, organize, and present data that demonstrate academic quality and program outcomes.

The third session resumed after lunch, focusing on “Technical Guidelines and Format of SAR Documents”, delivered by Dr. Dewi Yunita, S.TP., M.Res., IPM and moderated by Irhamni, S.Si., M.Si. This practical session provided step-by-step instructions and examples on how to compile a high-quality SAR, ensuring compliance with ASIIN’s format and requirements.

The workshop concluded with a formal closing session at 4:00 PM by the organizing committee and Vice Dean I. All sessions were met with enthusiastic participation, indicating a high level of commitment among FMIPA faculty and staff toward achieving international accreditation.

Dr. Nasrullah, S.Si., M.Si., M.Sc., as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, officially validated the workshop schedule and expressed hope that this capacity-building effort will accelerate FMIPA’s path toward global recognition. “This is more than just an administrative process—it’s a transformation in how we perceive academic quality and international standards,” he remarked.

The workshop serves as a strategic move by FMIPA USK to ensure that its study programs are not only nationally accredited but also internationally benchmarked—preparing its graduates to compete and collaborate in the global arena.
