FMIPA-USK and PMI Banda Aceh Sign MoA to Strengthen Humanitarian Collaboration and Student Innovation

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Syiah Kuala (FMIPA-USK) has officially established a collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Banda Aceh through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), held at the FMIPA-USK campus.

The MoA was signed by the Head of PMI Banda Aceh, Mr. Ahmad Haeqal Asri, S.Ked., M.M., and the Dean of FMIPA-USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., and was witnessed by PMI Banda Aceh representatives, faculty leadership, lecturers, and students.

This partnership covers three main areas in line with the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service. Planned activities include disaster preparedness training, public health education, blood donation programs, joint research in environmental health, and the development of campus-based volunteer programs.

In his remarks, the Head of PMI Banda Aceh expressed appreciation for FMIPA’s initiative in building cross-sector collaboration.
“We see great potential for collaboration, especially in the development of disaster and health research, as well as in enhancing student capacity through humanitarian programs,” said Mr. Haeqal.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FMIPA-USK emphasized that this agreement reflects the faculty’s commitment to social engagement through education.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to encourage students and faculty members to be more actively involved in social and humanitarian activities. This aligns with our commitment to advancing education, research, and community engagement,” stated Prof. Taufik.

The collaboration will be followed up by academic departments within FMIPA-USK. In the near future, one of the key initiatives is the development and adoption of Darah Tanyoe an innovative student project that won second place at the national level.

Darah Tanyoe is an integrated online system designed to optimize blood donation services. The system connects blood donors and recipients quickly and efficiently, while also serving as an educational and monitoring platform. PMI has expressed support for formally adopting the system to enhance its public blood service outreach.

Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This collaboration aligns with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

  • SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – through improved access to blood and health education programs.
  • SDG 4: Quality Education – by integrating real-world humanitarian issues into learning, research, and student innovation.
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – via disaster preparedness and community health resilience.
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – by strengthening multi-stakeholder collaboration between academia and humanitarian organizations.

With this partnership, FMIPA-USK and PMI Banda Aceh are taking a concrete step toward impactful education and humanitarian action that benefits both the academic community and the public at large.
