Another proud achievement has been made by a student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Syiah Kuala (FMIPA-USK). Dek Rina, a student from the Physics Study Program, successfully won a silver medal at the prestigious Research Project Olympiad (RPO) 2025.
This international competition was organized by the Indonesia Scientific Society (ISS) in collaboration with SEAMEO Qitep in Science (BBGP West Java) and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). The event serves as a platform for young researchers from various countries to showcase their innovations and research contributions in science and technology.
In this competition, Rina presented her research titled “Detecting Purity in Patchouli Oil, By Densitymeter Patchouli Oil, Integration of the Sensor and IoT in the Future.” The study was conducted under the supervision of two Physics lecturers from FMIPA-USK: Dr. Malahayati, S.Si., M.Si. and Dr. M. Syukri Surbakti, S.Si., M.Si.

The research introduces an innovative approach to detect the purity of patchouli oil using a specially designed density measuring device. It not only offers a practical solution for the essential oil industry but also opens up future opportunities for the integration of sensor technology with the Internet of Things (IoT).
This achievement was warmly appreciated by the Dean of FMIPA-USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., who stated, “We are extremely proud of Rina’s achievement. It is a testament to the great potential of FMIPA-USK students in research and innovation. We hope this accomplishment inspires other students to keep creating and achieving.”
FMIPA-USK also expressed its gratitude to the Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, for his full support through the Student Affairs and Achievements Bureau, which has continuously facilitated and encouraged student development in national and international scientific competitions.
May this success ignite the spirit of other young generations, especially within FMIPA-USK, to continue developing their potential, contributing through innovation, and bringing pride to their alma mater at both national and international levels.

🌍 Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
The research and achievement align with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
- SDG 4: Quality Education – Promoting research and innovation among students in higher education.
- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – Encouraging innovation and development of technology (density sensors and IoT).
- SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Supporting the quality control and purity detection of natural products like patchouli oil.
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Highlighting collaboration between educational institutions and international organizations.
