FMIPA UNSYIAH ESTABLISHES COOPERATION WITH FOUR PHARMACY COMPANIES

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Syiah Kuala University collaborates with four pharmaceutical companies. This agreement was marked by the signing of an MoU by the Dean of FMIPA Unsyiah Dr. Teuku Mohamad Iqbalsyah, S.Si, M.Sc with company representatives in the FMIPA Unsyiah Dean’s Room. (Darussalam, 12/12).

The four companies are PT. Kimia Farma Trading and Distributor Aceh, PT. Kimia Farma Pharmacy Banda Aceh Business Unit, PT Anugrah Argon Medica Aceh Branch and PT. Indofarma Global Medika Aceh Branch. Iqbal explained that this collaboration was in preparation for FMIPA Unsyiah to establish a new study program, namely the Pharmacist Professional Study Program (PSPA) under the Department of Pharmacy. Iqbal targets that by 2020 the study program will be established at Unsyiah. “With this study program, it will make it easier for undergraduate pharmacy students from FMIPA Unsyiah to continue their professional education at Unsyiah,” said Iqbal.

In this cooperation agreement, one of the points of agreement is that these four companies are willing to accept FMIPA Unsyiah students for PKPA activities. During this activity, they will facilitate FMIPA Unsyiah students to learn about management and distribution of medicines. “For this reason, I really appreciate this agreement. Because this is in line with FMIPA Unsyiah’s responsibility towards the Pharmacy Department which has not yet been completed. “That is to open up the widest possible job opportunities for alumni of this department,” he said. Coordinator of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Study ProgramLydia Septa Desiyana, S.Farm said, currently Unsyiah pharmacy alumni have to compete fiercely in various universities to continue their Pharmacist Professional Education. They were able to compete and qualify for various leading universities in Indonesia such as the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, Padjadjaran University, and various other universities, including foreign universities such as Prince of Songkla University. Despite this, most Unsyiah alumni still hope to continue their education at Unsyiah. Therefore, he hopes that with this collaboration, the Pharmacist Professional Study Program can soon be established at the Unsyiah Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. For this reason, Lydia considers this collaboration to be very important for FMIPA Unsyiah, because it has provided opportunities for students to gain work experience in pharmaceutical companies. There, they will certainly gain a lot of new knowledge in the drug industry   “On the other hand, in the pharmacist professional program students will have more field practice than studying in the lecture hall. “So this collaboration is very meaningful for students,” said Lydia Branch Head PT. Indofarma Global Medika Aceh Branch Jonan, S.Pd,.MM. said that his party is very open to anyone who wants to visit the factory to learn and understand the governance of the pharmaceutical industry. Jonan also emphasized that there are several important things that students must understand if they enter the world of the pharmaceutical industry. First, they must be ready if they are placed anywhere. Second, it is not enough for prospective pharmacists to just understand how to make medicines, but they must also understand the existing medicine regulations. Third, if prospective Unsyiah pharmacists go international then they must master at least two foreign languages. “So it’s not enough for a pharmacist to just know how to make medicine. “There are many other skills they must master, including language if they want to go international,” said Jonan. Also attending this activity was the Business Manager of PT. Kimia Farma Trading and Aceh Distributor Linara Putra S.Farm. Apt, Business Manager PT. Kimia Farma Pharmacy Banda Aceh Business Unit Drs. Roy Mustaqim, Apt, Branch Head of PT Anugrah Argon Medica Aceh Rawiyanto Branch, and PT.
