
On October 23, 2024, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) witnessed the grand opening of INFEST X, a festival combining science, technology, and social values. Organized by the Informatics Student Association (HMIF), the event provided a platform for university students and high school students to showcase their talents and abilities in the field of informatics.
With the theme “Forging Ahead in the Digital Era: Unveiling Tomorrow’s Innovations,” this year’s INFEST X emphasizes the importance of innovation to tackle the challenges of the digital age. The theme reflects the spirit of advancing forward while inspiring the younger generation to create innovative solutions that address the current issues faced by society.

The opening ceremony was a lively event, starting with a video presentation highlighting the festival’s activities, followed by a captivating performance from Sanggar Ceudah Rupa. A solemn moment was felt as Farhanul Khair recited verses from the Quran, followed by the national anthem of Indonesia and FMIPA’s official song.
Muhammad Firdaus, the Chair of the INFEST X Committee, proudly delivered his speech, expressing his enthusiasm for the event’s high participation rate. He highlighted the great interest the younger generation has in technology and innovation. “I hope INFEST X becomes a moment for all participants to innovate, collaborate, and build wider networks,” he stated.
Ardian, the President of the Informatics Student Association, also gave a passionate speech, emphasizing the importance of this event as a means of fostering student creativity. He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity and to build mutually beneficial partnerships.
The Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., extended his deep appreciation for the preparation and execution of the event, stressing that INFEST X is an important part of the learning process. He also emphasized the need to establish specialized teams for future IT competitions to help students achieve excellence and bring pride to Universitas Syiah Kuala.

Prof. Dr. Mustanir, M.Sc., Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Entrepreneurship, also provided his support and motivation. He underscored the importance of student involvement in various competitions to further elevate USK’s reputation on a national level.

Following the opening ceremony, the COINS (Computer Olympiad of INFEST) competition kicked off, featuring high school students from Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. The event also showcased an exhibition of innovative projects by Informatics students, allowing visitors to witness first-hand the creativity and skills of the participants in applying their knowledge of informatics.
INFEST X is more than just a technology festival; it creates a space for the younger generation to explore their potential, innovate, and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships in the digital age.
