
Doha, Qatar – Two students from the Informatics Study Program at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) Muhammad Habil Aswad & Furqan Ramadhan, successfully completed the Winter School in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering program at the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), Qatar, which took place from January 19 to 22, 2025.
This intensive program featured experts from various renowned institutions, including academics and industry professionals, who discussed the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, and their applications across different sectors.
Throughout the program, participants attended various lectures and in-depth workshops on topics such as Machine Learning & Software Engineering, Digital Twins, AI Video Generation, Goal Recognition, and Ethics in Software Development. One of the most intriguing sessions was a presentation by Dr. Belkacem Chikhaoui (TELUQ University, Canada) on the advancements of Transformers in AI, which form the foundation of modern artificial intelligence models like GPT and BERT.
In addition, USK students participated in collaborative projects and panel discussions that explored the impact of AI in various fields, including industry, research, and education. “We gained new insights into how AI is applied in industries, as well as the ethical challenges that need to be considered in its development,” said Habil.
Beyond academic activities, participants also had the opportunity to explore Doha, including visits to Souq Waqif and the Abdullah Bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center, providing them with an unforgettable cultural experience.

This program is part of the collaboration between USK and UDST in the field of technology and innovation. The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at USK, Prof. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, hopes that this experience will open further collaboration opportunities and bring significant benefits to AI development in Indonesia.
