USK Rector Honors Achievements of Outstanding Students and FMIPA Team in National and International Competitions

Students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) have once again made remarkable achievements at both the national and international levels. One of the FMIPA students, Putri Salsabila Rinaldi, successfully secured a prestigious internship position abroad at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in South Korea. KAIST is one of the leading technology universities in Asia and a top destination for talented students from around the world to develop their research and innovation capacities. Putri’s success demonstrates that USK students possess global competitiveness and expertise.

Additionally, a team of students from the Department of Informatics and Statistics at FMIPA USK also won Second Place in the national Sandbox Hackathon Hack4Health 2.0 competition, an innovation technology contest in the health sector, which saw participation from many renowned universities in Indonesia. The team consisted of five students: Glenn Hakim (Informatics – Team Leader), Muhammad Bintang Indra Hidayat (Informatics), Muhammad Habil Aswad (Informatics), Ahmad Syah Ramadhan (Informatics), and Musliadi (Statistics). They succeeded in developing an innovation that addresses real and systemic issues related to blood donation through a platform called DarahTanyoe.

DarahTanyoe offers an innovative solution by creating an intelligent ecosystem that connects blood donors, recipients, and related partners such as hospitals and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). This innovation aims to tackle the challenges of blood distribution and availability, which are often faced in many regions. By utilizing technology, DarahTanyoe simplifies the process of finding blood donors who meet medical needs and supports the sustainability of blood supplies in hospitals and PMI.

This achievement received direct attention from the Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, who extended his congratulations and expressed pride in all the students involved. During a meeting with the outstanding students, the Rector was accompanied by the Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Collaboration, as well as faculty advisors from the Department of Informatics and Statistics at FMIPA. Rector Marwan emphasized that this achievement is proof of the quality of education and guidance provided at FMIPA, as well as the students’ enthusiasm to continuously grow and contribute.

The Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Taufik, also expressed his appreciation and affirmed the faculty’s commitment to creating an academic ecosystem that supports students in achieving excellence both domestically and internationally. According to him, this success demonstrates that FMIPA USK students are capable of addressing contemporary challenges and playing an active role in creating technology-based solutions for the benefit of society.

The involvement of students in international programs and national competitions such as this not only brings pride to the institution but also serves as an inspiration for other students to continue striving for excellence. It is hoped that this achievement will motivate more students to follow in their footsteps, achieve outstanding accomplishments, and elevate the university’s name on both the national and international stages.
