Kuala Lumpur, June 3, 2026 — The delegation from the Pharmacy Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Banda Aceh, has once again brought pride to their institution and nation on the international stage. At the 5th International Youth Summit — Essay International Innovation Competition, held at Universitas Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia, on May 30 to 31, 2026, the team from Pharmacy FMIPA USK successfully secured two prestigious awards simultaneously, namely the Bronze Medal and the Favorite Poster Award. This achievement stands as one of the most remarkable international accomplishments attained by USK students throughout the 2025/2026 academic year, firmly demonstrating that the quality of human resources from a university at the westernmost tip of Indonesia is more than capable of competing before the international academic community.

The prestigious competition brought together young delegates from seven countries in the final round, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Thailand, and Morocco. The participation of nations from various corners of the world transformed this event into far more than a mere academic competition — it became a vibrant forum for the exchange of innovative ideas across cultures and nations. Each delegation was required not only to present a substantive scientific essay, but also to effectively communicate their innovative ideas before an experienced panel of international judges well-versed in their respective fields. The exceptionally high standards of evaluation and the intensity of competition among delegations elevated the prestige and significance of every award conferred throughout the event.
The Bronze Medal served as formal recognition of the quality of the essay and innovative ideas submitted by the Pharmacy FMIPA USK team, assessed rigorously by an international panel of judges drawn from diverse academic disciplines. Meanwhile, the Favorite Poster Award represented a special distinction honoring the team’s ability to visually present and communicate their scientific concepts in a compelling and engaging manner through a poster format, displayed before all participants and judges throughout the duration of the event. Together, both awards reflect a team that excelled not only in the depth of their academic substance, but also in scientific communication — a critical competency in today’s global academic landscape.
Universitas Putra Malaysia, as the host institution, is widely recognized as one of Southeast Asia’s most distinguished universities, known for its unwavering commitment to fostering academic capacity development and a culture of innovation among young scholars. The selection of UPM as the venue for the final round reflects the high standards upheld by the organizers in facilitating this internationally recognized competition. The conducive academic atmosphere and world-class facilities available within the UPM campus provided all participants, including the delegation from Pharmacy FMIPA USK, with an invaluable experience throughout the two-day competition.
The participation of the Pharmacy FMIPA USK team in this international competition is, in truth, the fruit of a long and rigorous preparation process involving intensive guidance from supervising lecturers, unwavering dedication from the student participants themselves, and the wholehearted support of the faculty and university administration. The hard work and commitment demonstrated throughout the preparation period have proven to yield remarkable results in the face of competition from delegations representing nations across the globe. This achievement simultaneously affirms that the academic ecosystem cultivated within the Pharmacy Study Program of FMIPA USK has been successful in producing students who are not only theoretically proficient, but also resilient and competitive when confronted with the demands of global academic competition.
This outstanding achievement is also hoped to serve as a catalyst for the broader strengthening of an internationalization spirit across Universitas Syiah Kuala as a whole. Moving forward, it is anticipated that an increasing number of study programs and academic units within USK will actively encourage their students to participate in various international forums and competitions, whether at the regional Southeast Asian level or on the global stage. By continuously expanding its academic reach and forging strong international networks, Universitas Syiah Kuala further consolidates its position as a distinguished university that contributes meaningfully to the advancement of science, technology, and innovation — not only for the people of Aceh and Indonesia, but for the global academic community at large.
The success of the Pharmacy FMIPA USK students in securing two awards simultaneously amid fierce competition from seven nations is an achievement worthy of immense pride from the entire academic community, the broader student body, and the people of Aceh. This accomplishment stands as living proof that with strong determination, proper guidance, and solid institutional support, the finest sons and daughters of the Land of Serambi Mekah are fully capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with — and competing against — the best delegates from every corner of the world. May this achievement serve as a firm foundation upon which even greater international accomplishments are built in the years to come, and may it continue to inspire the young generation of Aceh to dare to dream, to strive, and to excel on the global stage.
