Barracuda Hosts Waste Management Seminar to Empower Youth Toward Sustainable Action

Banda Aceh, May 17, 2025 — In an effort to raise awareness and promote practical solutions to environmental challenges, the Student Nature Lovers Organization (UKM PA) Barracuda of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), successfully held an Educational Seminar on Waste Management on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Mini Theater Room, Building D, FMIPA USK.

The seminar brought together students from various universities and high schools across Banda Aceh, all eager to deepen their understanding of sustainable waste practices and contribute to cleaner, healthier communities.

The event featured two inspiring guest speakers:
🔹 Henny Cahyati from kamiKITA Community Center, who shared community-based approaches to waste education and empowerment.
🔹 Naufal Agustiar, co-founder of the startup e-Tikbroh Yak, who presented innovative, tech-driven solutions to urban waste issues and encouraged youth participation in green entrepreneurship.

Participants were engaged in discussions about the current waste crisis, the importance of waste segregation, and the circular economy. Interactive Q&A sessions and case studies sparked interest in taking real action at the grassroots level.

This initiative supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – by promoting clean, resilient urban living
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – through education on waste reduction and recycling
  • SDG 13: Climate Action – by addressing the environmental impact of unmanaged waste

“We believe that change starts with awareness,” said a representative from UKM PA Barracuda. “Through seminars like this, we hope to create a ripple effect—equipping the youth with the knowledge and motivation to lead sustainable practices in their daily lives.”
