On July 26–27, 2015, Mapala Barracuda FMIPA Unsyiah successfully conducted a mountain climbing expedition to Mount Burni Telong. This activity was held during the 2012–2015 management period and involved a team consisting of three core members, one junior member, and two sympathizers. The expedition took place in the lush highlands of Bener Meriah Regency, where Mount Burni Telong stands majestically at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level.
The primary objective of the expedition was to observe and document the biodiversity within the Burni Telong mountain area. The team carried out a series of environmental observations aimed at understanding the variety of plant and animal species in the region. This activity also served as an introduction to the forest ecosystem for the junior member, helping them develop the basic knowledge and skills needed for future ecological and adventure-based missions.
Throughout the two-day journey, the team navigated through diverse terrains, ranging from dense forest paths to open highland ridges. They encountered various types of flora and fauna, which highlighted the ecological richness of the area. The expedition emphasized the importance of conservation and ecological awareness among members of the student nature lovers’ organization.
This climb was not just a physical challenge, but also a meaningful effort to promote environmental consciousness and camaraderie among members. It strengthened the bonds within the organization and reinforced Mapala Barracuda’s commitment to environmental exploration and preservation.
Through expeditions like this, Mapala Barracuda FMIPA Unsyiah continues to uphold its values of adventure, education, and environmental stewardship, contributing positively to both its members’ personal growth and the larger mission of nature conservation in Aceh.
