As part of its continuous commitment to environmental exploration and education, Mapala Barracuda FMIPA Unsyiah carried out two nature exploration activities in 2015 to unveil the hidden beauty of Aceh Besar’s ecotourism potential. The first expedition to Lhok Keutapang Cut was held from January 26–27, 2015, followed by a second expedition to Lhok Keutapang Raya on May 2–3, 2015. Both activities were conducted during the 2012–2016 management period of the organization.
Situated at the westernmost tip of Sumatra Island, in Aceh Besar Regency, both Lhok Keutapang Cut and Lhok Keutapang Raya offer a rich blend of forest and marine landscapes. These areas are not widely known to the general public, making them ideal destinations for ecotourism development and environmental studies.
The main objective of these explorations was to discover and document the natural charm and ecological potential of these areas. The expeditions focused on promoting forest and marine tourism while also raising awareness of conservation efforts in remote parts of Aceh. Participants engaged in hiking, beach exploration, and biodiversity observation, all while embracing the values of sustainable travel and environmental respect.
Through these journeys, Mapala Barracuda members not only strengthened their physical endurance and teamwork, but also deepened their understanding of Aceh’s diverse ecosystems. The lush green forests, pristine coastlines, and crystal-clear waters encountered during the expeditions revealed the untapped beauty of Aceh Besar—landscapes that deserve more recognition and protection.
These explorations served as a reminder of the region’s vast ecotourism potential and the importance of preserving it for future generations. They also reflected the organization’s mission to nurture environmentally conscious individuals capable of making meaningful contributions to nature preservation through direct engagement with the environment.
With initiatives like these, Mapala Barracuda FMIPA Unsyiah continues to lead the way in environmental exploration, fostering a spirit of adventure, learning, and environmental advocacy across Aceh and beyond.
