Banda Aceh, August 15, 2024. The Hall of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) was filled with enthusiasm on Thursday as 610 new students gathered for the Academic and Character Building Orientation (PAKARMARU). This event marked an important milestone in welcoming a new generation of scientists ready to face the challenges of higher education and beyond.
The Dean of FMIPA USK, Prof. Dr. Taufik Fuadi Abidin, S.Si., M.Tech., officially opened the event. He emphasized the importance of building strong character and academic capabilities in new students. “PAKARMARU is a crucial first step in shaping the character and future of these young scientists who will lead our nation in the coming years,” he remarked.
The morning sessions provided enriching content to prepare students for their academic journey. Vice Dean I, Dr. Nasrullah, S.Si, M.Si, M.Sc, outlined the learning systems at FMIPA USK, while Dr. Dra. Sulastri, M.Si., emphasized the importance of integrity, discipline, and resilience. Dr. Rini Safitri, S.Si., M.Si., introduced the USK Green Metric program, highlighting the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Meanwhile, Dr. Muzailin Affan, S.Si, M.Sc., discussed international opportunities through the Office of International Affairs (OIA) USK, and Dr. Evi Ramadhani, S.Si., M.Si., presented on the USK Entrepreneurship & Achievement Program, encouraging students to leverage their academic knowledge for entrepreneurial success.
In the afternoon, the new students were introduced to various student organizations (Ormawa) at FMIPA USK, providing platforms for personal development beyond academics. The event was filled with entertainment and games, fostering camaraderie among the participants. The PAKARMARU event concluded with the handover of the new students to the Heads of their respective department student associations, marking the official start of their academic journey at FMIPA USK.
This year, PAKARMARU FMIPA-USK welcomed 610 new students, distributed as follows:
- Department of Biology: 82 students (6 males, 76 females)
- Department of Pharmacy: 78 students (9 males, 69 females)
- Department of Physics: 31 students (7 males, 24 females)
- Department of Informatics: 111 students (61 males, 50 females)
- Department of Chemistry: 74 students (7 males, 67 females)
- Department of Informatics Management: 59 students (36 males, 23 females)
- Department of Mathematics: 62 students (12 males, 50 females)
- Department of Statistics: 113 students (27 males, 86 females)
We are excited to announce the arrival of 610 new students at FMIPA USK, including 165 males and 445 females, who are poised to bring a wealth of fresh energy and diverse perspectives to our faculty. Their unique backgrounds, experiences, and insights are expected to enrich our academic community and drive forward our collective pursuit of excellence.
As these students embark on their journey with us, we anticipate their contributions will enhance the learning environment and propel innovation and advancement across our programs. Their presence underscores FMIPA USK’s dynamic and inclusive spirit, setting the stage for a vibrant academic year ahead.
