Science&Tech Talks 2024: USK FMIPA Mathematics Department Brings New Insights into Science and Technology Development

Banda Aceh, August 20, 2024 – The Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) will hold a Science&Tech Talks event on August 20, 2024, which is anticipated to be enthusiastically welcomed by participants from various backgrounds. The event, conducted online via Zoom Meeting, will feature four main topics closely related to the latest developments in science and technology.

The theme “Mathematics for Machine Learning, Model Construction Techniques for Discrete Systems, Optimal Control Strategies for Public Policy, and Practical Applications in Public Policy Development” was designed to provide participants with up-to-date and in-depth insights. Given the rapid advancement of technology and the demand for more effective public policies, these topics are highly relevant to academics, researchers, and practitioners.

Internationally Renowned Speakers Share Their Insights

The event featured two distinguished speakers recognized internationally. Dr. Widodo Samyono from the Division of Arts and Sciences, Jarvis Christian University, USA, opened the session with a presentation on “Mathematics for Machine Learning.” He elaborated on how mathematics, particularly linear algebra and statistics, plays a crucial role in developing machine learning algorithms, which are now fundamental in various modern technology applications.

Dr. Said Munzir, S.Si., M.Eng.Sc, an academic from the Mathematics Department at FMIPA USK, continued the session with discussions on “Model Construction Techniques for Discrete Systems” and “Optimal Control Strategies for Public Policy.” He explained modeling techniques for discrete systems that can be applied in various fields, including economics and engineering. Additionally, Dr. Said discussed optimal control strategies that can be applied in public policy development, providing real-world examples from his research.

Interactive Discussions that Enrich Knowledge

The discussion session, moderated by Vera Halfiani, S.Si., M.Mat, a lecturer active in applied mathematics research, was one of the event’s highlights. Participants were allowed to ask the speakers questions, which were answered enthusiastically and clearly. This discussion not only provided answers to technical questions but also inspired participants to see the potential of mathematics in a broader context, including in strategic decision-making.

Positive Feedback and Expectations from Participants

Participants, including students, lecturers, researchers, and professionals in related fields, expressed appreciation for the materials. The event was regarded as a highly beneficial platform for enriching knowledge and expanding professional networks in science and technology. Several participants hoped similar events could continue to be held regularly, given the importance of knowledge updates in this fast-paced era.

Commitment to Advancing Science
