SDG 3 SDG 4 SDG 17

Banda Aceh, June 16, 2026 – In an effort to enhance technical competencies while fostering stronger relationships among nature enthusiast organizations, a joint rock climbing activity was successfully held at the Lampuuk Cliffs, Aceh Besar. The event brought together members from several Student Nature Lover Organizations (MAPALA), including PAL Caniva-51 of Syiah Kuala University (USK), Gainpala of UIN Ar-Raniry, Mapala STIK Pante Kulu, and Mapala Leuser USK.

The activity served not only as a technical training session in rock climbing but also as a platform for strengthening inter-organizational cooperation and camaraderie among students who share a passion for outdoor adventure, environmental awareness, and personal development.

Participants gathered early in the morning to begin the program with a comprehensive safety briefing, equipment inspection, and route planning session. Set against the stunning natural backdrop of the Lampuuk cliffs, the event provided an ideal environment for climbers to develop their skills while experiencing the challenges of climbing in a natural outdoor setting.

Throughout the activity, participants engaged in a series of climbing sessions designed to accommodate various skill levels, from beginners to more experienced climbers. Each session was supervised by experienced members who provided guidance on climbing techniques, rope management, belaying procedures, route reading, and emergency response protocols. Special emphasis was placed on safety standards, risk management, and teamwork, which are essential elements in any climbing activity.

According to the organizing committee, joint training activities like this play a vital role in improving the quality and preparedness of MAPALA members. Beyond physical ability, rock climbing teaches participants valuable life skills such as discipline, responsibility, problem-solving, leadership, and trust among team members.

“Rock climbing is not merely about reaching the top of a cliff. It is a process of learning perseverance, building confidence, managing risks, and relying on your teammates. Through activities like this, members can learn from one another and broaden their understanding of climbing techniques and outdoor safety practices,” one of the organizers explained.

In addition to skill development, the activity also served as preparation for upcoming climbing competitions, including the Pre-PORA (Pre-Aceh Sports Week), PORA, and various regional and national climbing events. Participants used the opportunity to refine their techniques, improve physical endurance, and strengthen their competitive mindset ahead of future championships.

One of the most valuable aspects of the event was the opportunity for members of different organizations to exchange experiences and knowledge. Discussions ranged from climbing methodologies and equipment management to expedition experiences and organizational development. These interactions created a meaningful learning environment while strengthening the network among nature lover communities in Aceh.

The atmosphere throughout the event reflected the strong spirit of solidarity and mutual support that characterizes the MAPALA movement. Participants encouraged one another during climbs, shared technical insights, and worked together to ensure that all activities were conducted safely and efficiently.

As environmental and outdoor organizations continue to play an important role in developing student leadership and environmental awareness, collaborative activities such as this demonstrate the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving common goals. The event also highlighted the value of maintaining strong relationships among organizations to support future programs, training initiatives, and conservation efforts.

At the conclusion of the activity, participants expressed their hope that similar joint training programs would continue to be organized regularly, involving even more MAPALA organizations and outdoor communities across Aceh. They believe that such initiatives contribute significantly to the development of competent, responsible, and environmentally conscious young people.

The successful implementation of this joint rock climbing activity stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, shared learning, and friendship among student nature lover organizations. More than just a training session, it became a symbol of unity, determination, and the collective spirit that continues to drive the MAPALA community forward.

“Every step on the cliff strengthens our journey, and every moment of togetherness strengthens our brotherhood.” This message perfectly captured the spirit of the event, reminding participants that true achievement is built not only through individual skill but also through trust, cooperation, and lasting friendship.
